Ashvale Chronicles
Ashvale Chronicles is the game I keep recommending to friends who think mobile RPGs are shallow. The story follows a band of travellers trying to piece together why their hometown went quiet, and it's written with real warmth. Characters banter during travel, remember earlier choices, and occasionally refuse to do what you want — which somehow makes them feel more alive.
Combat is turn-based and deeper than it looks. Positioning matters, elemental weaknesses matter, and there's a stamina system that stops you from spamming your best moves. I spent a happy hour just rebuilding my party's skill trees before a boss I'd failed twice. When it finally clicked, it felt earned.
The touch controls are clean — tap a target, drag to reposition, tap skills from a radial menu. My only gripe is that the early chapters are a little slow, but push past the first two hours and it opens up beautifully.
What we liked
- Genuinely good writing and character moments
- Tactical combat that rewards planning
- Deep skill trees worth experimenting with
